Actually, Amanda Overmyer does sound a lot like Janis. Unfortunately, though, she got booted because of that because the American Idol demographic and judges just can't appreciate her Blues Rock style. But check her out on YouTube. Her best performances were her audition of Joplin's "Mean Woman" and Joan Jett's "Hate Myself For Loving You". Some of her other performances weren't so great, but that was more on the judges and the show, though. The judges always bashed her for always sounding like Janis and they tried to tell her what to sing, how to dress, how to do her hair and makeup, etc, so she kind of got to where she didn't know who to be. And then when she toned everything down a bit, they told her "this is who you are", like they really knew her. And she played along for a while and tried to be more "American Idol", but finally, she had enough. When the judges suggested that she should do a ballad,or something, she said that she won't do a ballad because ballads are stupid and aren't her and she only has a minute and a half a week to give her fans a taste of what they'll see at her shows when she's a star,so she had to be real and be herself. Then Simon said she isn't a star yet, but she said she doesn't even care if she has to sell out bars in Lafayette (she has a little Joplin attitude too). Then, the next night she was eliminated at #11,so she doesn't get to tour, which sucks because I really wanted to see her. But i think she'll be better off without Idol anyway. Then she could put out a kick-a$$ Blues Rock CD and doesn't have to worry about singing any stupid ballads :p
But she's really cool, though. How many nurses do you know who ride their own Harley (not in the b*tch seat :p)? Plus, right before she went to Hollywood, she was in a bad car crash where she ran a stoplight and got hit by a semi truck and ended up getting staples in her head,or something. But even a semi couldn't take that chick down. Anyway, though, maybe she's not the next Janis Joplin because there was only one Janis and no one else can ever be Janis, but she's definitely about the closest I've seen, especially on American Idol.
