Does anyone remember a TV series called Jimmy's about Leeds's St James's Royal Infirmary?

It was on TV in the 80's in the UK and it was one of the early fly on the wall hospital shows. I'd love to find a website link for it or a you tube video, even if its just of the titles but I can't seem to find anything and I'm worrying that maybe I imagined it lol!

Actually, it was called St James' long before Jimmy Saville came along.

A friend of mine worked on the production team of that programme and he told me they had a devil of a job keeping Jimmy Saville away from the cameras.



He said that Saville was nothing more than a publicity seeking P in the A! He was also disliked by most of the staff and patients at Stoke Mandeville Hospital as well.

He never actually did any work at either site, just walking about puffing cigar smoke and being a prat.

You didn't imagine it, I used to watch it too. I thought they called it "Jimmy's" as a nickname for St James though. My A&E unit is being filmed by the BBC soon so I'd love to know how the staff back then coped with being filmed while they worked. I'm dreading it!

Yes I do. Sir Jimmy Saville was a voluntary porter at the hospital which is why it was called Jimmy's

I worked on the TV show for seven years - on and off. First as a researcher and later on as the series producer.

I remember it well and it was affectionately called Jimmy's because of it's name - St. James!
