He has a recognizable voice that I happened to like very much, but he was a victim of lousy song choices more times than not. I can't believe that the choices are entirely voluntary.
While Jason's take on "Hallelujah" is one of my favorite performances of the season {goosebump time, baby!},..."Memory" from "Cats" was a loser from the get-go. Almost anything from JC Superstar would've better suited Jason's quirky vocals. during Andrew Lloyd Weber week.
(And you'll never convince me that Brooke White ASKED to sing "Here Comes The Sun" during Beatles week. What about "For No One" or "Here, There, Everywhere"? Again--plenty to choose from IF there really was unlimited "choice.")
I think that Archuleta will be the winner--but it may depend on the judges slamming David Cook at just the right moment--as they did with best-singer Melinda last season to make way for the more tour-friendly, teen-appealing Jordin by the finale.
And I don't believe for a moment that Michael Johns got the lowest number of votes the week of his exit. It was a double whammy, in my humble opinion: they couldn't lose another female at that point in the competition, and they had to shake up the complacent folks at home who were watching but not voting.
Everybody knows that David Cook's future is secure, a la Chris Daughtry, and he'd have to commit murder NOT to get signed to a major label even if he goes home before Syesha and David A. He's a seasoned performer, and my hands- down favorite.
Archuleta is the guy for filling venues with screaming Hannah Montana fans. He's a great singer and if he's managed right--he'll make more money than Exxon over the span of his career.
Again--just my opinion.
